Glen Ellis Falls, North Conway Area, NH

Everybody knows where Storyland in Jackson, NH is located.  If you keep driving up route 16 for another 20-25 minutes, you come across Glen Ellis Falls.  It is part of the White Mountain National Forest, so you need the weekly parking pass or you need to pay the daily fee.

When we first arrived, we were a bit disappointed to learn that Glen Ellis Falls was more of a scenic overlook like The Basin, rather than a hike.  Quickly, we changed our mind and this became a spot on our list of favorites in NH
You park across the street and cross in a tunnel under route 16.  Almost immediately, you see the river.  Because of all the rain, the water was rushing over rocks and creating a strong current.

There are several stairs to reach the falls.  This site is not wheelchair or stroller accessible.  The wooden stairs can get wet, so be sure to go slowly.

Along the way, there are several lookout points. Each one provides a breathtaking view of a waterfall, including a 65-foot fall (you can see the size of the falls compared to my brother.)
At the bottom of the stairs, you can see that there is a slightly worn trail that takes you even further down the river. If the river was lower, I would have considered going for a quick swim in the pools and basins. There were no posted signs that prohibited swimming.

The hike back up the stairs is a calf and quads-burner!  Take your time, especially with children or older folks.

In sum, if you like Diana's Baths, the Basin, and Ripley Falls in Bartlett, this visit is all three in one.
